Debdale Outdoor Activity Club staff and volunteers attended the Manchester Sports Awards on Saturday evening.
These are held every year at the Hilton Hotel on Deansgate in Manchester and celebrate the side of sport where it all begins; with those people who volunteer their time to offer sports to the people of the region.
There are thousands of young people who participate in sport to keep healthy or keep in touch with friends, those who wish to work their way through a programme towards certification and those who wish to represent their country in the Olympics. At Debdale, we accommodate all of these and support everyone. This is built upon the firm foundation of members and volunteers who all pull together to make it happen. In 2016, there were 53 Saturdays and we opened on every single one, including Christmas Eve and New Years Eve.
We were nominated in the 'Club of The Year' category and up against The City of Manchester Gymnastics Institute and Wythenshawe Community Rugby FC which was the second award on the agenda.
The video here was shown to the audience on huge screens. Watching were loads of other clubs and centres, invited sports stars and dignitaries.
Debdale Outdoor Activity Club were awarded Silver, behind Wythenshawe Community Rugby FC to whom we extend our congratulations for winning Gold. We won't rest here and are aiming for even greater success next year. For a relatively small club, we make a lot of noise; Silver in Club of the Year in 2017 and Winner in the 'Young Volunteer of The Year' in 2017 when our Nicola Stockdale took the top prize.
We're extremely proud and thank our wonderful members, volunteers and staff and hope you will join us on the next part of our journey as we approach the end of 2017 and sail into 2018.
